Hollandse Kust (west) wind farm zone

Particulars of the wind farm

Hollandse Kust (west) lies 53 kilometres from the coast, to the west of the Hollandse Kust (north) wind farm zone. So it is a long way from the mainland and, on completion, will hardly be visible from the coast. The electricity will be brought to land near Wijk aan Zee by transmission cables and, from there, distributed to the national electricity grid.

Sites

This wind farm zone is split into two sites, each of 700 MW. The draft site decisions have been published and have been available for inspection. Documents are available for inspection on the website of Bureau energieprojecten

The tenders for these sites have been issued in 2022; the winners were announced at the end of 2022. For site VI, the winner is Ecowende, a partnership between Shell and Eneco. Site VII is owned by Oranje Wind Power II, a subsidiary of RWE AG. The parks can each provide for the electricity consumption of about 1 million households, measured according to current (2022) use.

Construction will start in 2023. The park will be fully operational in 2026. The first power will be supplied even before that time.

Free passage

The Hollandse Kust (west) wind farm does not offer free passage to shipping due to shared use. On completion, shipping may solely pass through a so-called ‘transit passage’.

Shared use

An Area Passport guide will be available on the opening of the Hollandse Kust (west) wind farm zone. Zoning in this area passport will show where there is space in the wind farm for shared use.
