Maritime Information Provision Service Point

The arrival of offshore wind farms offers the Dutch government, TenneT and other service providers opportunities for installing equipment and sensors that collect valuable data for a range of users.

The Maritime Information Service Point (MISP) project aims to purchase, install and operate various sensors on the platforms that form the offshore grid in Dutch coastal waters at the most cost-effective rates possible. The sensors to be installed include, for instance, systems for shipping safety, such as radars, AIS and VHF, but also meteorological systems for the KNMI (Dutch meteorological office), such as anemometers, and rain and temperature gauges. Measuring equipment for ecological monitoring in wind farms, such as radars that can detect birds and bats, will also be fitted.
